GABAY : A SEMINAR SERIES FOR YOUTH ON LEGAL LITERACY ,SAFETY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

A  WEBINAR REFLECTION BLOG

The important and educational conference, "Gabay: A Seminar Series for Youth, Literacy, Safety, and Social Justice," addressed the growing problem of cybercrime and its effects on people, particularly young people. PSSG participated in the session, which was hosted by Gianelle Joyce and Lara Jane. Princess Rowie D. Garcia spoke on a variety of subjects, including the significance of using social media responsibly, internet safety, and knowledge of cybercrime.

PSSG. Garcia also talked on typical cybercrimes in the Philippines, such as identity theft, phony job advertising, internet scams, cyber libel, and unauthorized access. She presented a number of actual instances of GCash scams, internet fraud, and even companies breaking licensing and safety regulations. The organizers included an entertaining icebreaker exercise to keep attendees interested, which made the conversation entertaining and instructive.

Key Takeaways: What I learned from the Webinar

The seminar made me realize how essential cyber awareness is, especially in our digital generation. I learned that not everything we see or click online is safe, and even a small mistake can lead to serious consequences. The six cyber tips shared by the speaker — such as using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, discarding unused applications, and being cautious about who we interact with — are practical yet powerful reminders for everyday digital safety.

I also appreciated the discussion on cyber hygiene and responsible social media use, which encouraged us to think before we post and avoid oversharing personal details like “on the way” or location updates that might compromise our safety. The talk about AI-generated content was also interesting, as it raised awareness about the growing risks of misinformation and online manipulation.

Turning Insight into Action: How I can Apply The LessonS

As a student in the digital field, I can apply the lessons from this seminar in my daily online activities. I will be more mindful when handling information, verifying sources before believing or sharing them, and using cybersecurity measures to protect my personal data. In group projects or online collaborations, I’ll also encourage my peers to adopt ethical and safe digital practices.

Moreover, since technology is deeply integrated into my academic work, understanding the legal side of cybercrime gives me a clearer sense of responsibility as a future digital professional. This seminar reminded me that being digitally literate means not only knowing how to use technology but also knowing how to use it wisely and securely.

Event Highlights: What A webinar Stand Out

The event stood out because of how interactive and relatable it was. The speaker didn’t just present facts but  she shared real-life cases and stories that captured our attention. The hosts also did a great job keeping the energy alive through short games and icebreakers, which prevented the discussion from feeling too heavy. It was clear that the goal was not just to inform but to empower the youth to act responsibly online.

Suggestion for Future Improvements

The seminar was well-organized and informative, and I truly enjoyed it. I learned a lot from PSSg. Garcia’s insights, and the discussions were both educational and practical. My only suggestion would be to hold more sessions like this in the future, focusing on different areas of digital safety and cyber awareness, so that more students can benefit. It would also be great if participants could ask more questions freely or engage in small group discussions for deeper learning..
