A Reflection on 4th Regional Cybersecurity Conference 2025
4th Regional Cybersecurity Conference 2025
with the theme: Cyber Secure Gens: Bridging Knowledge, Building Defenders Across All Ages.
A WEBINAR REFLECTION BLOG
Holy Angel University's Cybersecurity Conference 2025 brought together professionals, experts, and students to raise awareness of the increasing risks in the digital world. Building "Cyber Secure Gens: Bridging Knowledge, Building Defenders Across All Ages" was the focus of the event, highlighting the fact that cybersecurity is everyone's responsibility, from beginner users to aspiring digital professionals
The morning session featured key discussions on cyber awareness and protection, beginning with Mr. Renato Paraiso from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) who emphasized that cybercrime is everywhere and awareness is the best defense. He introduced initiatives like “Scam Bayan” and the Hotline 1326 to report online scams. Mr. AJ Dumanhug from GCash followed, discussing real-world cyber threats such as phishing, smishing, and accessibility abuse, and shared practical cybersecurity tips like using strong passwords, setting transaction alerts, and avoiding suspicious links. Mr. Alan R. Inton of Cyber Shield Training Solutions highlighted the need for hands-on cybersecurity training through real simulations, while Mr. Mark Legeza of Black Ops Consulting International concluded by stressing data privacy and encouraging participants to “detox” their digital lives by removing
unused accounts and controlling
The afternoon began with Mr. Rodel Plasabas, who discussed the importance of regular software patching to prevent vulnerabilities and strengthen digital defenses. Mr. Nap Castillo of Cloud Smart then emphasized securing cloud-based assets, explaining the 3-2-1 Backup Rule and the shared responsibility in cloud security. The session ended with BGen. Jamel P. Samonte, PA, who underscored the importance of education, partnership, culture, and talent development in preparing the next generation of Filipino cyber defenders, inspiring the youth to be proactive, responsible, and vigilant in the digital world.
Key Takeaways: What I learned from the Webinar
I now have greater awareness of the size and depth of the cybersecurity industry because of this experience. I came to understand that there is a risk associated with each click, app download, and online transaction. I discovered how cybercriminals take advantage of people's trust and negligence to steal information or gain access to personal devices through social engineering and screen overlay attacks.
The significance of practical cybersecurity training was yet another important lesson learned. I learned from Mr. Inton's explanation of muscle memory that cybersecurity is a skill that develops with practice, much like animation or sound design in my line of work. I was also reminded by Mr. Legeza's discussion about data protection and how personal information may be used as a weapon for manipulation, which emphasizes the importance of online awareness and discipline.
Turning Insight into Action: How I can Apply The LessonS
I can put these teachings into practice as a student of entertainment and multimedia computing by improving my data handling skills in projects and online collaborations. I now see how crucial it is to use two-factor authentication, frequent backups, and secure password management when keeping animation files, utilizing cloud platforms, or logging into creative tools.
We frequently share files, assets, and personal accounts online in creative production; if done irresponsibly, this could be dangerous. The conversations increased my awareness of digital hygiene and the morality of safeguarding not only my personal data but also that of my audience and team. Being a "cyber defender" is a concept that applies to everyone in the digital world, not only IT specialists.
Event Highlights: What A webinar Stand Out
The Gabay: A Seminar Series for Youth, Literacy, Safety, and Social Justice was not only informative but also engaging and lively. The event featured exciting icebreaker performances from talented dancers, which helped energize the crowd and keep everyone entertained throughout the day. There were also raffle draws with plenty of winners, adding an element of fun and excitement to the seminar. The venue itself was well-organized and comfortable, providing an ideal setting for learning and interaction. Notably, the last part of the morning session stood out for being both entertaining and highly informative, leaving the participants inspired and more aware of the importance of cybersecurity and responsible digital behavior.
Suggestion for Future Improvements
The summit was highly informative and inspiring. I genuinely enjoyed every session and learned a lot about the realities of cybersecurity. For future events, I would love to see more interactive demonstrations or hands-on simulations, where participants can experience how cyberattacks work and how to respond to them.
